1962 Norton Atlas
It might not be as sexy as a Commando with Dunstall Fairing, but this 1962 Norton Atlas is the beginning where the Commando is the end. Build between 1962 and 1968 the 750cc had grown from the Bert Hopwood designed Dominator 500cc twin. The original design grew first to 600cc then 650cc and finally to 750cc for the Atlas.

In its 6 year run the vibration felt by the end user at higher RPM’s was heard by Norton. To combat this they did what they could, lower the compression ratio. But they did give it a second carburetor in 1964. Paul Dunstall know for his earlier Domiracer, developed the Domiracer 750 based on the blown out 750cc of the Atlas.
