1956 MV Agusta 175 CS
There is a change going on in the world. Just a few years ago it had to be shiny and bright. Lots of chrome, big and loud. Now people are looking for original. Patina replaces chrome. And size doesn’t seem to matter. This MV Augusta offered on eBay now it taking advantage of this trend, but also maybe being taken advantage of as well.
From the seller
I BOUGHT THIS BEAUTY IN ITALY LAST YEAR AND IT HAS SINCE BEEN COMPLEATLY DISASSEMBLED, CLEANED ,DETAILED AND SERVICED ACCORDING TO FACTORY SPECS BY MOTO ITALIANO NY. ALL PARTS ARE ORIGINAL AND CORRECT. PAINT IS ORIGINAL WITH A GREAT PATINA. PLATING HAS BEEN REDONE AS WELL AS THE SADDLE
MV Agusta started out with small displacement race bikes, and have grown to larger displacement race bike. The great sales points are all the World Champion Flags on the gas tank. When the rest of the Italian manufactures pulled out of Grand Prix racing after the 1956 racing season, MV Agusta stayed. This may have been a factor in all the wins they racked up, but don’t forget the bikes that won, or the pilot.
This MV CS as the seller points out is not the better known Disco Volante but is one of the 175cc bikes offered by MV Augusta to those that wanted to go racing. At a time when most manufactures in Italy were trying to move the population from here to there, MV Agusta made a conscience focus to build racing motorcycle. If you bought a MV Agusta you were going to go racing, and the closest racing these days are the Moto Giro tour/race offered on both the East and West Coasts.
From the seller
STARTS WITH ONE KICK HOT OR COLD. ALL ELECTRICS WORKING CORRECTLY AND EXCEPT FOR NEEDING FRESH RUBBER THIS BIKE IS A GIRO READY TURN KEY RIDER. CLUTCH IS A NEW SURFLEX AND WIRING LOOM A NEWLY MADE REPLICA FROMITALY.
You may think the numbers that I found for these 175cc racers are small, but remember the day and the competition. 172.3cc from a 59.5mm x 62mm engine with a 7:1 compression ratio would give you 11hp at 5200rpm. This was good enough to propel you 71mph down the road. If you think of this with American eyes looking down the open freeway, its not much. But if you look as this we a European eye and see winding single lane roads, or up and down rolling hills you can enjoy those 11hp that much more. So enjoy this SMALL MV. BB
